Some Quick FAQ's to Get You Started (click each question to reveal answers){mooblock=1) Is my information safe with you?}
Absolutely! Our servers use 128bit encryption from the site to database, which means that information transmitted to and stored in the database is unaccessible to anyone. The site reads and decrypts this information for use when you login, so only admins can read it. We cannot see passwords: They are encrypted directly within the database and are not readable by humans. {/mooblock}{mooblock=2) Are there any requirements of me when I create and account at The Paranormal Society?}Yes, there are a few basics you need to know:
- Certain information is required from you, such as your real name and email address.
- Your username cannot be the exact same as your real name. for example: Your real name is Jane Doe; Your username cannot be "JaneDoe", or any variation of. This is done for your protection and to prevent spam and abuse of the site. Accounts found to not adhere to this requirement will be suspended until it is corrected.
- Accounts exceeding 90 days with no activity will be set to "Inactive Status" until the user logs in. Accounts inactive for a period of 6 months will be permanently deleted.
- Please, no spamming or abusing other members. Your account can be deleted without warning for these actions. If you want to advertise, there's a place for it.
- When it comes to abuse, racisim, defamation and other types of deplorable behavior, we have zero tolerence. Just read the Terms of Service and you'll be fine!
{/mooblock}{mooblock=3) Does my computer have to have anything special to access the site?}
Yes and no. But here are a few things you'll wanna make sure are up to date:
- Your web browser must be set to accept cookies, or at least our cookie, in order to utilize the site properly.
- The Paranormal Society uses lots of Javascript functions. Your browser must have the latest version of Java Runtime installed. Without this, you will not be able to access most sections.
- Our videos play through the Adobe Flash Player and the DivX Web Player. You'll need up to date versions of both. For Adobe's Flash Player, you'll need a minimum of version 10.0. For the DivX Web Player, the minimum acceptable version is 1.5. For more on watching videos, visit the Video Help Section.
- Adobe's Flash Player is on 99% of all computers out there, so chances are it's installed on yours. If not, or if you need to update, please visit Adobe's website.
- DivX is a high quality player that renders very high quality with lower file sizes. If you don't already have DivX, you can grab it here for Windows, or here for Mac.
- You need to have a broadband internet connection (DSL, Cable) with minimum download speed of 1.0mbps, although we highly recommend an average of 3mbps or higher. Most of our videos are encoded in high quality formats. With a slow internet connection, your time spent here will not be as enjoyable.
{/mooblock}{mooblock=4) I have dial-up. Can I still access the site?}
Yes. However, watching any video will be a horrible strain. While it is possible to watch full episodes of our programming with a dial-up connection, it's not practical.
{/mooblock}{mooblock=5) Why do some of the videos load so slow or are "choppy"?}
Different reasons.
- It could be that your internet connection speed isn't capable of delivering the media in an efficient manner.
- You may be using an slightly older computer with less video RAM, or an out of date version of Windows or Mac (we only support Windows XP, Vista and 7. All versions of Mac 10.4 "Tiger" and later are supported)
- Hundreds of other visitors may be watching the same video, possibly increasing it's buffer time.
- If you're experiencing "choppy" playback, this is most likely caused by your computer system's limitations.
- Please note that DivX encoded videos will require longer buffering times. Just be patient and the video will load as intended.
{/mooblock}{mooblock=6) Do you allow on-site advertising?}
Yes. In fact, we encourage it. We're currently developing advertising packages and promo offers. Visit the forum for up to date info and progress.
{/mooblock}{mooblock=7) Do you conduct interviews for media and do you have a press kit?}
Yes and no. We welcome all requests for interviews and information. Please visit here for media requests. We do not have a "Press Kit" available at the moment. Keep checking the forum for more info on this.
{/mooblock}{mooblock=8) Do you allow the use of information at The Paranormal Society?}
Yes, as long as the use is allowable under our guidelines. Generally, if the information will be used for educational, non-profit purposes, then there's no problem. The problems come in when you intend to use our information for commercial use or to populate another website with info. If the information is displayed on our site but doesn't belong to us, then please don't ask for permission for use. All requests will be denied and directed to the appropriate copyright holder. Remember: Information doesn't have to be registered as copyrighted for it to be protected.
{/mooblock}{mooblock=9) Do you allow your videos or full episodes to be used on other sites or embedded?}
Absolutely not. You may share the link, but we do not provide an option for direct embedding episodes of any show, nor do we allow it. We do not own the copyrights for any show (unless noted otherwise), therefore we do not have the authority to allow any sharing of the content. The networks and copyright owners have given their permission for us to broadcast their content, but that permission doesn't include it being displayed on any other website. Do not ask for permission to use... it will always be denied.
