Get Help Watching Videos

Watching videos is easy here at The Paranormal Society! We try to make it as easy as possible for you to watch your favorite paranormal shows and movies. There are a few things you'll need to do to watch some videos, including movies.

For our official videos

All episodes are in Flash (flv) or MP4 (mp4/m4v) format. Videos in these formats will play through Adobe's Flash Player, which is installed on nearly all computers. If you're having trouble playing videos, then you'll most likely need to download or update your Flash Player through Adobe's website here.

Watching Movies

Movies are presented the DivX (divx) format. For DivX videos, you'll need to have the DivX Web Player installed on your computer. Don't worry... it's perfectly safe.

Grab the Divx Web Player for your system. You can get it for Windows here, or for Mac here.

Can't Watch Videos?

The Paranormal Society requires a minimum of Adobe Flash Player 10.2. You can grab the latest version here. Once it's installed, you may need to clear your web browser's cache (temporary internet files) and then restart.

Before installing Adobe Flash, you will need to first uninstall any older versions you currently have running on your computer. To do this, download Adobe's official uninstaller here. Make sure to select the correct operating system, and then "Uninstall Flash."

  1. Now that you've uninstalled the older version of Flash, follow Adobe's instructions for reinstalling the most current version. Remember, you'll need a minimum of Adobe Flash 10.2. The download option is on the right-hand side of the page.
  2. Once you've downloaded Adobe's Flash, exit your browser, and then install the upgraded version.
  3. Now, open your browser again and go to The Paranormal Society. You should be able successfully watch videos!

If you're still having trouble watching, please visit Adobe's Troubleshooting Page for more help.

If the above doesn't resolve the issue, try the following:

  1. Temporarily disable popup blocking software installed on your computer to test.
  2. Allow www.theparanormalsociety.org as a trusted site in your Firewall application.
  3. Ensure other applications like Quicktime, iTunes, Real Player, or Windows Media Player aren't set as the default streaming application, as this might affect the video player.
  4. If you're still having problems viewing, please let us know.

Slow Loading or Buffering rate:

This will usually only occur with DivX videos, however, it can happen with either long flash files or very high quality videos. We can't control the speed. If you have a DSL 3.0 meg connection or higher, you should rarely have a problem. Lower speeds absolutely will run into snags here and there. Dial-Up? I'm sorry, but you will most likely have a hard time viewing most videos due to the lack of speed with dial-up.

Here's some things that can help improve performance:
  • Once you click to play a movie, allow it to fully buffer before playing. When it begins to play, click the "Pause" button and allow it to load for a few minutes more. Go grab a cup of coffee, tea or wine, wait a few minutes then sit back and enjoy. The video loads itself progressively, which means that when paused, it continues to load (you'll notice the bar at the bottom slowly making its way to the right). Ideally, you want that little "loading bar" to stay a good bit ahead of your viewing position tab at the bottom of the player.
  • Close any unused browser windows and don't do any heavy downloading when watching... that is unless you have a  fast internet connection capable of handling it. Chat and IM is fine to do while watching.
  • If you're on dial-up or DSL 1.5megs or less, then your only option for watching DivX videos without interruption is to allow the video to load at least halfway before watching. Again, this depends on your connection. Theservers will deliver as fast as your connection will accept.
  • Movies are not hosted on our servers, therefore we cannot control the rate of playback.

Mobile Devices You will need to download the Adobe Flash Player application for your device. Navigate to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ using your mobile device, then follow the prompts. If you're using the Android OS, you can visit the Android Apps Market on your device and download the Adobe Flash Player application from there.
