But I'd love to hear more about relative frequencies for EVPs used as authentication. It's something I wasn't aware of at all.

LOL,

As a former teacher I'm sure your research skills could get you through this article in no time.

I remember when I read it...my eyes glazed over after about a minute and it took me several tries to finish.

Here ya go:

Ron

Ron, I was an art and photography teacher!! LOL :P

(I think I've been given some homework. I hope there won't be a quiz! )

Now, off to read the article. :) Thanks!!

EDIT:
Absolutely fabulous! I very much appreciate the link. I am still learning, but the information on formant noise and phoneme restoration is the best explanation I've ever read about the dynamics of sound pareidolia.

Also, it mentions that the use of sound - altering or editing software can give false positives for voices, and how compressions are designed to suppress the very things you want to make clearer.

I now understand why white or pink noise is often used during EVP sessions - and why it's a bad idea.

Seriously, this is excellent stuff!
THANK YOU!

When I said "isolate" I meant the pitch does not exceed 600 to 800 hertz

If you look at this image of Chandra's voice spectrogram of her saying
"I just heard..." you can see it fills the spectrogram from 100 to almost 2K hertz
while the childs voice seen below it only covers a 200 hertz range.

and yes it's above the norm freq for a child

From Ron's link:

"Baby cries have a fundamental frequency (hereafter referred to as Fo) of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4, adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or, B2)."

So, might it be an adult female? (200Hz range)

no... Chandra's vocal range went from 100 hz to well above 1K hz (1900 hz range)

the child's vocal range is 600 to 800 hz (give or take a few) only 200 hz range

Humans cannot isolate their vocal range this low. There fore its paranormal.

Thanks for the clarification. I was confusing range with actual Hz numbers.
